Alexei Pichugin, the head of YUKOS’ security departments, to face a jury trial on criminal charges

Alexei Pichugin, the head of one of the YUKOS’ security departments, will face a jury trial on criminal charges on Monday, Pichugin’s lawyer Georgy Kaganer told Itar-Tass.
The prosecutor will read out the indictment to the defendants while the counsel for the defence will make its opening speech. After that the court will define the procedure for studying the evidence.
The trial will pass behind the closed doors because confidential materials are involved in this criminal case.
The Moscow City Court selected 12 regular and four reserve jurors out of 40 candidates on September 30.
The Russian chief prosecutor accuses Pichugin of organizing the murder of Sergei Gorin and his wife Olga in Tambov in 2002 and also of an attempt to assassinate Olga Kostina, the former adviser to the YUKOS ex-chief Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
According to the investigation, Gorin blackmailed Pichugin by threats to contact law enforcers. This is considered to be the main version for the murder.
Alexei Peshkun will face trial as an accomplice on charges of instigating a murder.
